Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)

The term “Designated Safeguarding Lead” (DSL) is used in the DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education document and refers to the person accountable for overseeing the safety and wellbeing of the children in the care of their setting. The role of the DSL must be fulfilled by a member of the schools Senior Leadership Team to ensure that they have appropriate authority and status to provide advice and support to other staff on child welfare and child protection matters.

All DSLs in our Trust wear a wide black lanyard displaying the Trust/School logo, with 'DSL' written on it in white wording.

All other Trust employees wear a white lanyard displaying the Trust/School logo.

Our school has a Trust Designated Safeguarding Lead, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and 8 Deputy DSLs. Our school's DSLs are the people responsible for all safeguarding and child protection matters within our setting.

We follow a rigorous safer recruitment process to ensure that all individuals working in our school are suitable to work with children. This includes carrying out all appropriate pre-employment checks in line with statutory guidance, such as:

• Verification of professional qualifications and employment history

We use a computerised system called CPOMS to record and track safeguarding concerns.

Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse means any threats, violence, controlling or coercive behaviour that takes place between family members or people aged over 16 who are in a relationship with each other (or have been in the past).

Domestic abuse can happen regardless of social group, class, age, race, disability or sexuality of the individuals involved. Domestic abuse can affect men, women and those who identify as non-binary. It can occur in any relationship - heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, young or old.

It is a pattern of behaviour used by abusers designed to establish and maintain power and control over another person.

E-Safety

At Endeavour our online safety forms an important part of our Computing and PDL curriculum. We strive to ensure children understand the importance of using technology safely and respectfully. We aim for them to keep their own personal information private and be able to identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns. We want our children to develop online resilience to enable them to become safe and responsible internet users, no matter where they are, or what device they are on.

Keeping our children safe is a joint responsibility of all sectors of our community, including children, parents, staff and governors. If you have any concerns regarding apps or programmes etc., please do not hesitate to contact us.

Prevent

What is the Prevent Strategy?

Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes.

The Prevent Strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right-wing, violent groups and other causes.

How Does the Prevent Strategy apply to schools?

From July 2015 all schools (as well as other organisations) have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views the same way we protect them from drugs or gang violence. Importantly we can provide a safe place for pupils to discuss these issues so they better understand how to protect themselves.

What does this mean in practice?

many of the things we already do in school to help children become positive, happy members of society also contribute to the Prevent Strategy.

These include:

• Exploring other cultures and religions and promoting diversity
• Challenging prejudices and racist comments
• Developing critical thinking skills and a strong, positive self-identity
• Promoting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils, as well as British values such as democracy

We also protect children from the risk of radicalisation, e.g., using filters on the internet to make sure they cannot access extremist and terrorist material, or by vetting visitors who come into school to work with pupils.

We will carry out our prevent duty with our children and families in an age-appropriate way so pupils understand values such as tolerance and mutual respect.

Children’s Voices in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ (DfE)

The Department for Education has published a child-friendly version of Working Together to Safeguard Children, including a downloadable booklet and animation to help young people understand safeguarding processes.

The guide, titled A Guide to Safeguarding for Children and Young People, explains how professionals like social workers, teachers, doctors, and police collaborate to keep children safe. It encourages children to speak up and reassures them that help is available.
